Surf Lessons

Embarking on a surfing adventure is an exhilarating experience that combines the thrill of riding waves with the calming beauty of the ocean. Whether you're a novice or looking to improve your skills, our comprehensive surf lesson will ensure you have a memorable day at the beach.

Rough Bar Surf aims to provide an enjoyable surfing experience by including all necessary equipment needed for the PNW waters. We recommend bringing a towel, bottled water, and vehicle key storage.

Lessons are provided at Westhaven State Park in Westport, WA. The Washington State Discovery Pass is required for parking and access the beach to surf. There is a kiosk available at the park purchase a day or year pass. You can also purchase one here.

Lesson Details

• Duration: Each surfing lesson is 2 hours. This provides ample time to cover ocean safety, surf etiquette, and practical aspects of surfing.

• Content: Your surf lessons begins first on land with ocean safety, surfing etiquette, learning wave/beach patterns. You will proceed to basic techniques, such as paddling, popping up, standing on the surfboard and riding the wave. For more advanced surfers, instructors can focus on refining skills and introducing more complex maneuvers. Once the basics are reviewed you will apply what you’ve learned with your instructor in the ocean!

• Complete Wetsuit Rental:

• Wetsuit: Keeps you warm and comfortable in the water.

• Boots: Provides extra grip and protection for your feet.

• Hood: Helps retain body heat, especially in colder waters.

• Gloves: Offers warmth and a better grip on the board.

• Rest-of-Day Board and Wetsuit Rental:

• Our package includes rest-of-day wetsuit and surfboard rental, allowing you to practice even after the lesson ends.
